Edmodo is a Web 2.0 tool that is used by educators to create a secure and trusted environment for sharing ideas, files, and assignments with students and parents. Edmodo also allows for a powerful social learning environment for classrooms. This social learning aspect of this site is a very powerful feature helping to increase student learning.
Edmodo is FREE to educators.
Edmodo has several components that are very useful to teachers in our district. It has several features that we do not need. For example, there is a Gradebook feature that allows teachers to log and average grades. Our district already uses a separate program for that function. ISTE Standard:
NETS II. Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Students:
a. interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts or others employing a variety of digital environments and media.
b. communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats.
c. develop cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with learners of other cultures.
d. contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems.
Objective/Clear Target
Teachers will be exposed to ideas and strategies to develop a collaborative space for students that has limitless possibilities for students, teachers, and stakeholders to collaborate and share notes, thoughts, and projects.
Getting Started with Edmodo
Go to http://cmcss.edmodo.com (When working from school, you must use the CMCSS or CMCSS WiFi network)
Click the "I'm a Teacher" button below the "Sign Up Now, It's Free" message.
Using Edmodo
Once you have logged in, you can create your first group (or class). Groups create a customized experience for the users. Teachers can send/share messages, assignments, quizzes, or notes with specific groups of students and parents.
To create your group, follow the instructions below for Creating a New Group. (Instructions for Archiving/Deleting a Group are included on this page.)
Students can create their own Edmodo account and join different groups by entering that groups' specific code. (Students are not required to include an email address.) Instructions have been provided for students to create a new account or join a group from an existing account.
After groups have been created, teachers can send customized messages, links, videos, and assignments to each group. Students can respond by posting messages privately to the teacher or publicly to the group. However, they are not able to private message each other from within Edmodo.
Guidelines and expectations about the purpose of the group should be provided to the students. Reminders about online behaviors, including cyberbullying, may be required.
Creating Small Groups
Within each group, teachers can create small groups to allow students to collaborate on projects or assignments.
A free tool that lets you mold Common Core to your standards.
Make progress (not educated guesses)
Get real-time feedback on classroom and individual student performance. Snapshot tells you what students know (and what they don't)
Take action (and a breath)
You already trust Edmodo in your classroom. Built into the product you know and love, Snapshot takes the guessing out of assessing.
Test your students (not your patience)
You'd never describe standardized testing as "quick and easy." With thousands of qualified questions, Snapshot automatically creates standards-aligned quizzes.
Save time (and your sanity)
Just pick a standard and decide whether you want to gauge comprehension before or after a lesson (or both). You decide when and where; Snapshot runs on your schedule.
To Create a Snapshot Quiz
1. Select Snapshot from the Menu Bar on the right hand side.
(The first time Snapshot is selected a guided tour will be offered. The tour can be cancelled.)
2. Click the Create Your First Snapshot button.
3. Add a group to get started. Also choose the grade level and subject.
4. Select the Common Core standards to be assessed by clicking the Plus Sign beside the standards. Use the scroll bar to view the additional standards for the selected category. View additional Common Core standards by selecting the category from the Suggested Column on the left hand side.
5. Create a unique name for your Snapshot. The default name is Snapshot 1. Set the due date and time limit. Add your own note, preview your Snapshot, Plan for Later, or Assign Now.
